Not a professional player but Bobby Thompsom from the Border Regiment,
who stayed in my house for a couple of years, played for the regimental football team. I had a newspaper article about that but lost it somehow. He got an award for best player. Btw he was from Liverpool.

Thomas Farrage is shown in the RoH with a date of death of 23rd September 1944 with no known grave. However there is an unverified report from a another member of "D" Company, 10 Para, that states that he was hit in the spine by a burst of machine gun fire, on the 18th September, and died of his wounds being buried that same day.
Sid Gueran was apparently killed in the Van Limburg Stirum School adjacent to Arnhem Bridge, on the 18th September. He also has no known grave

One who wasn't killed during the War, and who I believe is still with us, was Pilot Officer John Love, who flew a Hamilcar on Varsity. He was a professional before the War and afterwards went on to manage Walsall Town FC.

This guy also survived the war and played for Bristol City. George Ernest, 'Tug' Jones, 21st Independent Parachute Company, other than his being a POW after capture at Arnhem cant find much about him other than what I have written and thats from Leading The Way.
