    Hi Guys and Gals,

Just had a questioned asked from a friend who is putting on a production of Taking Sides by Ronald Harwood. The production requires the use of jelly beans. The question is were rations on the food
colouring and what colours sweets would have been.
Any help would be appreciated so they can put on an authentic play.
    Many thanks
    Mike

not entirely sure, sweets were in short supply due to the lack of sugar. The only thing I can think of in regard to food colouring is that condemened meat was stained green so it didn't get back into the human food chain and was used for animal feed instead.
I don't think colouring was a problem, it was the lack of sugar. I seem to recall special dispensation being made to WI's for extra sugar to make rosehip jams to replace the vitamin C lost when citrus fruits weren't arriving in the country.
