Remembered that I still haven't seen a Mossie flying restoration - came back to this thread and saw that the Kiwi one was still ongoing, at least in October last year:

Looks like a chap with the resources to get things done...

Blimey, following some links there, the chap that did the woodwork for that one is also working on his own:

Adam, thanks for the update - it would be wonderful to see (and hear) a Mossie flying again, but NZ is a bit far to go!
    Any news on engines?

My wife works in aged care and one of her latest clients is a WW2 Mossie Navigator with 456SQN night fighters.

I have printed out a few bits and pieces to help him re-collect some of his war-time experiences. He was very tired today when I met him with my wife, but he certainly remembers his old service number and his last CO (Bob Cowper).

When I get my mobile broadband connection to behave itself I might try showing him some of the available videos. If I get desperate I might just play the movies 633 Squadron or Mosquito Squadron for him.

I am also waiting for a couple of Mosquito history books which I bought from ebay that he might enjoy looking through.

Hopefully next week he has a good day and we get to have a chat (he is only 96 years old)

There is a Mosquito being restored on Vancouver Island at the moment. A friend of mine has been in to see it twice now, having been on a long holiday to see his daughter. He has taken quite a number of close up pics of the restoration in progress. As far as I know it is being restored at Victoria Airport, but I can confirm that later. I'm fairly certain that there is a link to it on the IWM Duxford Website.

Nice thread about a truly beautiful aircraft...

Kermit Weeks is someone I had heard of before as he has the only airworthy Sunderland flying boat...

A story I've never been able to corroborate...

The Mosquito, or rather an Airfix 1/72 kit I'd converted into a weather-beaten silver RAAF variant, was responsible (there was another confirmation of events at the time) for me getting my apprenticeship back in '75...
I got through the initial interview and had to face a board interview of three elderly engineers - a request to bring examples of hobbies was made so I took in a few constructed kits...
One of the gentlemen was quite taken by the Mosquito and commended me on my skills... he leant forward and advised me (in conspiratorial tones) that he had been responsible for designing and redeveloping a Mosquito as a high-speed transport for Winston Churchill...
I've never been able to confirm that such an aircraft existed though...

It would be wonderful to see one flying again...

I have always loved the Mosquito. I've got a 48th scale one in my wardrobe waiting to be built. As far as I was aware, didnt the last flying example crash in the early 90's at an air display? I'd love to see one fly again.

Avspecs Ltd website shows the latest report on the Mosquito from Nov 2010. Nothing more recent, but she looks a beaut:

City of Calgary just approved 800K matching funds for the full restoration of a de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito, RS700/CF-HMS, and a Hawker Hurricane, RCAF 5389, built by Canadian Car and Foundry, both currently in storage. Not likely airworthy restorations though.

Restoration crew will be 100% volunteers for anyone interested.

We also have a Seafire at the Museum of the Regiments in Calgary.

Does anyone in this thread have any information on a Mosquito pilot?
My grandfather was a pilot of one until a crash sent him home for good... F/L Martin Anthony Cybulski or Martin 'Cy' Ross

ROYAL AIR FORCE 1939-1945: FIGHTER COMMAND | Imperial War Museums

this is a picture of him and his navigator, Laddy, standing beside their torn up Mosquito. This was just after returning from the mission that got them their DFC and the first DFC for the 410 Cougars.
If anyone has any information at all, it would be a great help, thanks

Unfortunately as I am aware the couple Mossies under restoration currently will not be flying examples. The last one was in Canada and that has just lost its ticket (as mentioned here), the other beautiful example was was lost in a accident at a air show in in the UK in 1997 tragically killing the experienced pilot.
