I've got a copy of National Geographic magazine where one of the main stories is the threat to New Orleans from flooding caused by storm surge etc. This edition came out less than a year before the disaster hit NO. Freaky.

    Hope everyone is okay.
My uncle, who lives down there, was talking about it the July before Katrina when they were visiting. He said that they were lucky with Betsy in 1965 and Opal in 1995 and that if a large hurricane hit N.O. full on, they'd be in trouble. Prophetic words.

Today we hear at work that those effected by the floods can have the time off as UNPAID leave or holiday.

Owen, I hope you're making sure that Craig is putting on rubber gloves before he handles anything !:) If I ever get quoted for something in the local rag, I hope it isn't as open to interpretation as that.

It occurred to me that the MoD has recently been selling off the Bedford "Green Goddess" fire pumps. These were originally kept for a civil emergency. Wonder if there's any left in service and what classifies as a civil emergency these days? Good pumpers from what I've read.

I remember going to Ireland a couple months ago, eevryday it seemed to just be misty, like it was always raining. Downpours there seemed to be the "norm", so I can't imagine what flooding is like.. God Bless you all
