Flight LT W.D. Grieve, 324 Wing, 72 Squadron

    In the September 1944 History of the 189th Field Artillery Bn, 45th Infantry Division, USA,
    I found this statement under 2 September:

    "At 1030 a Spitfire crashed near Battery 'B', completely demolishing the plane. Flight Leftenant (sic)
    W.D. Grieve, 324th Wing, 72d Squadron, RAF, bailed out and landed safely by parachute."

    This occurred near St. Julie, France, in the 7th Army area.
