It worth mentioning that one of the MP's got 16 mths for fraud and his custodial sentence was reduced to 8 mths and then a further 4 mths off with wearing a 'Tag'. He served 4 mths inside of the 16 month sentence. I wonder if he will be out in the same time.
What's the point in giving sentences say 16 months etc and then letting them out after 4 months? Why don't they just give him 4 months to start with:huh:. Andy I too heard the debate on Jeremy Vine show about the Gilmour lad. Don't think jail will have made much difference to the way he behaves anyway do you?

Public has a short memory, people hear 16 and say 'ok'.
Then, by Christmas when he gets out, they go 'oh well'.

Continuing to think everything is ok, and let's keep coddling criminals.

As far as jail making a difference, of course not.
What would make a difference is a couple of years of tending graves world wide every day,
digging and sleeping in a foxhole every night, while locals in whichever country
are allowed to come out and throw stuff at him. :)

However, since no judge in the UK would actually be brave enough for a perfectly
reasonable sentence like this, gotta take what you can get.
    Better than nothing.

Martin, gather whatever influence you can gather and get him deported to the States, particularly to Maricopa Cy., AZ for the tender mercies of Sheriff Joe Arpaio :D

Because prisoners with no hope of remission are recalcitrant prisoners by default.

It makes Prisoners behave as Adam so eloquently put it.

As has already been said the Flag Waving (whilst outrageous in its own right) wasn't the reason he was sentenced it was the Violent Disorder offences. Whish is one down from a Riot in the public order offence ladder. By the way Riots are rarely declared by Police for financial reasons. If they officially declare a riot the appropriate Police service pics up the bill not government.

Whilst four months might seem long (Having visited a few prisons in Yorkshire I can honestly say I'd rather do 6 mths in Afghanistan) I suspect what he did and the media coverage he received will probably follow him for the rest of his life when it comes to a career etc.

I'll see what I can do.;)

p.s. I happen to like Sheriff Joe, at least he is not afraid to try something so his guests
    don't come back. :)

BBC News - Charlie Gilmour loses appeal against fees demo sentence

Charlie Gilmour, the son of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, has lost an appeal against his sentence for violent disorder during a student fees protest.

Gilmour, of West Sussex, who swung from a Union flag on the Cenotaph during the protests last December, was jailed for 16 months in July.

He admitted attacking a shop in Oxford Street and a car in the royal convoy.

Lawyers for the 21-year-old Cambridge University student had argued the jail term was "unduly harsh".

He was released today after serving 4 months of a 16 months sentence.

To quote Jeremy Vine today on BBC Radio2:

Is that half of 16 months then? ...... <Pause for effect> ...... OK

BBC News - Student protest: Charlie Gilmour freed from jail

"Charlie Gilmour was released from HMP Wayland subject to him complying with a home detention curfew - commonly known as tagging.
"The curfew will continue until the halfway point of his 16-month sentence.
"This is standard procedure for prisoners who are serving a sentence of between three months and four years."

just hope he was able to see the Remembrance parade on his cell TV and can now be aware of where it is and what it means to the rest of us and trust that he doesn't spit on the sidewalk in the years to come as that will rate an even longer sentence -

sort of brings to mind the hope that ALL criminals in future are sent to care homes and all pensioners are sent to prison - face it - the pensioners would be way better off for all their meals - medical -rent / mortgages - comfort - entertainment needs are FREE whereas the prisioners in the care homes would have to pay for all that - should really give it a try.....the other aspect would be to declare all the over 50;s in employment should retire and give their jobs to the young - and solve the crime problems- then give the retirees 1million each and make sure they buy new BRITISH cars IF there are any left - the economic problems would then be solved- but we dont have the money I can hear them cry - well take it from foreign aid where it goes directly into some Swiss bank- and get it back from the duty on beers and fags ....

    just a few thoughts
    Cheers

Article in today's Sunday's Mail about mummy's little darling and how it wasn't he's fault, just the pressures of his life.

    - Have to say what I still think of the little *!*! is unprintable for this forum and would see me banned from posting on here again.
