Hello, my late father Robert Meikle served as a signalman aboard the minesweeper HMS Circe. He would never talk about the war, so I am short of details. I know he was also posted to Eritrea, and he took some pictures there. He became ill with dysentery and I have pictures of him looking very thin. He took some images at sea. I am thinking that this one is from Circe? I have others. Maybe he wasn't supposed to take photos! Any help would be much appreciated. Kind regards, David Meikle.

Hello, yes thanks very much for that. I remember seeing those details. I'm wondering how I can find out when my dad was on board. It looks as if they had a busy and hazardous schedule. Do you think that picture is on board HMS Circe?
If he was in Eritrea it was probably at Massawa. Before surrendering the Italians had scuttled some 40 ships in and around the port and trashed most facilities including the floating dock. Mines were also laid. The port was needed as a maintenance base to support traffic through the Red Sea supplying the N African front and both RN and USN salvage teams were sent.
