Whilst Switzerland remained neutral throughout WW2, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania allied themselves to Germany - although all three flew Bf109s and Hungary, I believe, also flew Ju87s.

I'm assuming the Hungarians and Romanians flew on the Eastern front, but in all honesty this is an aspect of the air war I know very little about! Anyone better informed than me able to point me in the direction of some good research material? As for the Swiss, in his biography of the Spitfire, David Isby recounts the story of the clashes between Luftwaffe and Swiss Air Force Bf109s (mostly early model Doras in the case of the latter) early in the war, which makes for fascinating reading...

Did any of these air arms produce fighter (or dive bomber) aces?

    Hi Adam,

The ARR (Rumanian Air Force) produced 59 fighter aces (5 or more kills). The top scorer was Alexandru Serbãnescu with 44 confirmed aerial victories.

The MKHL (Hungarian Air Force) also produced 34 aces. Top scorer was Dezso Szentgyorgyi with 32 confirmed aerial victories.

You may also be interested to know that there were 18 Croatian (ZNDH) aces and 17 Slovak (SVZ) aces who flew Bf 109s on the Eastern Front.

The Rumanians operated the following German types: Bf 109, Bf 110, Ju 88, Ju 87, Hs 129, He 111, Do 17, FW 189

The Hungarians operated the following German types: Ju 86, Ju 88, Bf 109, Bf 110, FW 190, Me 210, Ju 87, He 111, Do 17, FW 189, He 46, Ju 52, Fi 156

    Best Regards
