I am researching my uncle’s service in WW2 and have managed to obtain his service records which shows that he was assigned to 9 FHS in the early part of the war then 64 FHS towards the end. My question is how can I find out which division these units were attached to. Any assistance would be appreciated
I've checked the orbats in the Divisional histories I have & not seen either of those sorry. I suggest looking at the war diaries . Found these 64 Sec. | The National Archives 64 Fd. Hyg. Sec. | The National Archives There are more for 9 FHS. Search results: 9 field hygiene | The National Archives
Thanks Owen. I will take a look but if they are not available for download it will be difficult as I am located overseas. I really just need to know which divisions he was attached to so maybe someone else will be able to help. I know that he was in France initially and evacuated from Cherbourg in 1940 then went on to North Africa later and received the 8th army clasp to the Africa Star but I have no idea of the details
I don’t know if it’s of interest but here are 3 of the photos taken by my uncle in North Africa. They are captioned Tripoli, Tobruk and Angel of Tobruk

I thought I would upload this photo as it is named and someone might recognize the names. It is titled Workshop Staff and back row left to right Allan Whittle, Pop Ponton, Staff Sgt Burrill, Jim Merrill ( my uncle), Percy Blake and in front Driver Pashley. Location unknown but somewhere in North Africa. Date unknown. Unit 9FHS or 64 FHS

I found that 9 FHS is listed among the GHQ troops for the 1st BEF in France 1940. Does this mean that they weren’t attached to a specific division? Is there anything else that I can infer from this information? British Expeditionary Force order of battle (1940) - Wikipedia
I found out from my uncles service record that 64 FHS was actually previously 6 FHS then renamed. Would you mind to please check your records for mention of 6FHS? Thanks
