The Mauser Broomhandle! Lots of style, Winnie had one, it was a presentation piece in the Red Army, and at a pinch it had the mass to drive stakes in vampire hearts!

Another thing going for it it has 100% votes! One vote only but 100% is 100% :D

No idea, but always fancied a try at a Luger.

Only full bore pistol I ever shot was our Browning 9mm, [same as Fn High power Pistole 640(b) ???]
Anyway I thought it was cr*p, or was that my aim.
    Not voting for it anyway.

I vote Luger P08, simply cos of it's value to Allied soldiers looking for souvenirs.

Im not an expert but the Colt 1911 has an admirable service record.

Do you have experience with your favorite?

Yes, I have a M1911 Colt and a M1911A1 Ithaca, both of which I have some experience (not military) with.

I have owned and fired most of the pistols on the list, and the Browning-Colt .45 would be my first choice for combat.

The most comfortable-to-shoot 9mm Para. I own is a Polish vis35, which is a Browning in Polish uniform, after all.

Well, the next time you're on this side of the pond, give a ring and you can shoot my 1918 Erfurt.

Was trained on the L9A1 Browning HP, but also had a "pet" Tok.TT33 (1968 dated ex-NVA) which could punch holes in body armour for fun!

My alltime favourites aren't listed however - the .455 Webley "Wog Stoppers", especially the Mk.V and Mk.VI (which saw limited service in WW2). Can't beat a revolver that can have a shoulder stock and bayonet attachment and is heavy enough (and weighted and studded well enough) to be used as a club when the ammunition runs out!

Out of pure sentimentality, I'll have to vote for the Tokarev in this one, I think.(Though I think the Berretta 34 is the best looking)

how often was the broom handle mauser used, and who used them? Ive Not done much research into the topic, but it appears that it was often used as a side arm for support soldiers, tank commanders, etc.

This pistol was used to a limited amount in WWI, according to information I have, and by 1919 it was considered an obsolescent design. As far as WWII, the only country I know of that issued the C96 widely was China, where several arsenals manufactured a Chinese version.

The C96 was used by the SS. However, it was not a standard issue side arm.

The Webley .455 was still in use, and can claim to be one of the best revolvers ever made, so that's my choice.

I do also enjoy the mind-bending complexity of the Luger, though... :)

And the FN High Power had an exceptional magazine capacity for the time.

Gotta go with the Colt. It's still around so you know it was quality made.
