I have just been trying to insert a link into a posting by clicking on the chain link icon. It opened up a box but then froze so not only did it insert a link but I lost all that I had typed. Can someone plse check this out?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Working fine.

The link icon is for making a section of text work as a link.
    Select the text.
    > Click the icon.
    >> Enter url in pop-up box and hit ok.

To add a link without parsing it as above, just put it in the main body of the text and the editor will automatically recognise it as a link.

Thanks for the reply. What you state is exactly how I expected it to work but, as I explained, it does not work on my browser at least - ie 11.0. When I do what you recommend it just freezes and I can't get out of the pop up box.

Tried on Four different browsers, and Two more iterations of 2 of them, and it's working OK.
I'm afraid all I can say is that there's likely to be some sort of conflict or setting at your end doing it, though the potential variables of why are massive so it's very hard to make a suggestion.

Well, thanks for trying Idi! I'll just work around it next time or maybe try Firefox instead. Strange.<br />Paul

Gave up trying weeks ago with IE11. There`s some conflict between IE11 and forums in general likewise cut and paste issues.I reverted back to Chrome and have no problem.

IE11 does appear to be being something of a bugger.
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/12/06/ie11_breaks_dynamics_crm_online/
    etc.

Though annoyingly, it's one of those intermittent/system-specific sort of things. Worked fine just now in ie11 here,
I sort of suspect we're in a funny period with web standards shifting at the mo & everything not quite being universal - I imagine that'll go on forever,

Oops. Wrong thread. Meant this to go up on http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/52239-pasting-text-into-a-posting/

    Apple Oligies. K?

    This today at: http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/57066-google-no-longer-indexing-the-forum/

Somebody is having exactly that same problem on http://www.ww2f.com/

There are definitely some technical (coding) glitches on our forums, provided by http://www.invisionpower.com/

    Another example:
If I write a sentence with two urls in the same sentence, the whole line of text from the first url on will be reduced to a single url.
Ie: Posting the ww2talk's link and a few words followed by ww2f's url (testing this error here) ends up looking like this: http://ww2talk.com/forums/ followed by ww2f's url http://www.ww2f.com/

And... sometimes putting a single url early in a sentence, the entire line of text after the url will be added to the url.
aka Posting the ww2talk's link followed by a sentence (testing this error here) ends up looking like this: http://ww2talk.com/forums/ followed by a sentence (testing this error here) ends up looking like this.

Has anybody else run into this?

Fred, you're putting a right slash '/' at the end of your urls when there's never any need to do so. This could be confusing the forum software, although I can't seem to reproduce the problem at my end.

e.g. it should be http://www.ww2talk.com and not http://www.ww2talk.com/

I'm not entirely sure what is going on in Fred's case, but it looks like embedded links are being created by the forum software. Even though long links are partially hidden personally I don't think it's good form to put full links in a sentence. If you are going to do that you should embed them yourself with the link icon and preserve the integrity of your sentence.

You could probably argue that by only showing the beginning and end of long links the software is practising a form of embedding itself. I can't really explain what is happening Fred's case other than to say it is some kind of an embedding glitch.

    Regards ...

I would like to get the place parsing links automatically like it did under VB.
Paste a link, automatically get the page title as a hyperlink rather than the URL.

Knowing this to be possible (seen on some IPB installations) and making it so, are proving to be two different things...
