I know I have a problem, today I returned to a shop were I have found a few items in the past, the chap says I have something for you and handed over a tin with 2 badges Fallschirmjager and Infantry assault
He told me they came from a local house clearance were a elderly Gent was going in to care.
He said the Gent had ripped them from the same tunic, but as anyone who collects meets with plenty of story tellers.
I am wondering would they both been on the same tunic and are they the real deal ?.

Have you got a picture of the other badge?
Seem to recall that Luftwaffe/Goering Airborne/Field chaps were awarded the Infantry assault badge earlier on, but it was replaced by (or added to) by a Luftwaffe 'Ground combat badge' later.

I can't, off the top of my head, think of a problem with someone earning/wearing both, for a variety of possible reasons. (Caveat - I'm no expert.)

Can't help with authenticity - specialised business.

I will not comment on the authenticity of the FJ badge shown, but prior to the introduction of the Luftwaffe ground assault badge in March 1942 FJ troops would have been issued with the infantry assault badge. After the introduction of the Luftwaffe ground assault badge any who had the army version were supposed to swap it for the new badge, though how well observed this was is not known to me.

If you get no joy here with authenticity, try posting it here (in the correct section) for informed opinions. WW2 German, Soviet, Allied militaria, uniforms, awards, weapons history. War relics forum

There's SS FJ to throw into the mix too.
Some of those were knocked up from former Panzergrenadier & Infantry mobs (Quite late in the war? So I wouldn't be too certain that niceties of badge might be observed, or even follow the same rules as the LW chaps).

I have seen the same combination from a veteran - associated with the Sicily campaign. It could be worth trying to contact the former owner, or their family, could be an interesting chat.

Thanks Keith, I think he has been moved into care and is not to well, all these items are nice to have just a shame when they change hands and the true stories are lost. I am not sure were the Gentleman served but as the badges are zinc from late ww2 I was thinking or hoping Normandy.

    Regards Andy.
