Please lock or delete thread if necessary but this one made me smile. He did call Reynaud a general though.
Hardly surprising to see that a candidate with the name UNCOMMITTED only managed to win 0.5% of the vote.
Dave No..... Paul Reynaud was not a General he was the French Prime Minister at the time of the severe crisis for both France and Britain in what became the Battle for France in May and June 1940. The background to "it's all over" as quoted by Mathews is after the Blizkreig started on the 10 May 1940 with an attack on France and the Low Countries which saw the Wehrmacht steamroller German victories in Western Europe to the coasts. By 25 May 1940,a number of his cabinet were becoming convinced that France should sue for peace...heading this initiative was Petain, recently appointed as Vice Premier and the newly appointed Weygand as Commander in Chief of the French Army. It was followed by far the best defeatist comment, made by Reynaud in a cabinet meeting of 12 June 1940 when he declared: "You think that Hitler is another Wilhelm 1,the old gentleman who took Alsace Lorraine and that was all.But Hitler is Gengis Khan"
"The only vestiges left of his mighty ancestry were a pronounced stoutness about the tum and a predilection for little fur hats".
Dave55 - your electoral system is a complete mystery to me. Your link and all the goings on in the background implies that Bernie is the new POTUS already. Is Nevada one of the decisive states? ps the Mozart clarinet concerto is one of my favourites.
It's a mystery to us too. Nevada is one of the earlier primaries. It should not be any more important than others but now the races are all about appearance and Bernie is in the lead so voters in the later state primaries are going to flock to him. He is a radical socialist and the media's angst comes from their belief that even a moderate socialist during a roaring US economy will get slaughtered by Trump in the general election and take his down ticket party mates with him. EDIT: I probably made it muddier for you. Bottom line it is almost a fait accompli that Sanders will be the Democratic candidate but the Democratic party and news reporters hate that because they know he will lose to Trump.
