When I tell folk that I am on Facebook they are usually amused. I then rush to explain that this gives my wife and I immediate access to the latest news and photos of all our grandkids Ron
I keep digging on this as I find it so hard to believe. Kind of wonder if it is linked to their recent hack. Or are they really that determined to destroy their business. Instagram is said to have lost half it's users since they took over. (No bad thing... I hate instagram photos.)
sounds like they're trying to catch up on spammers and those who might pretend to be someone else. Some people nick photos off one persons page and then set up a new account, fake name, but using those persons photos to appear 'real'. I dont use my real name, never have, never will. Have three accounts, for three different uses.
FB is a virus that I once made the mistake of installing. It and other internet 'services' are becoming far too invasive for my liking. All too frequently their excuse is that they are 'protecting' you.
Mentioned elsewhere: Social Fixer can stop most of the unwanted stuff, lets you customize it more than FB normally allows and makes using it more bearable, at least until 'they' move the goalposts again.
Having been concerned at the Documentation they were asking for I contacted the UK Data Commissioners Office only to be told Facebook do not fall under the remit of UK or European Data Protection Legislation. It seems to me their assurances that ID scans will be destroyed once 'verified' are not worth the elctrons that they are transmitted on and are something more sinister. Steven
I would say that only a Loony would submit such ID to the Interweb, other details covered up or not. Google+ Finally has a selling point if this becomes the norm.
I gave up with it in May 2011. Never signed up, never will. Still don't understand why malware and AV programs don't detect it and remove it
This is a new one to me. All I can say about FB is that, when used wisely, it is a useful site; we have 620 people who follow our page, several of whom are relatives of members of the Regiment; some have now applied for Associate Membership. Steve W.
So's what is to stop anyone posting fake I.D. photo's , who verifies whats real and whats fake , an absolutely worthless security feature .

Steve W. It's great getting the updates from you and the other Steve. My compliments on all the work you put into it. It is the best reason to be on FB.

yes, have over two-thousand 'friends' plus a number of descendants of the West Ham Battalion. It is a big help in the targeted marketing for a book
While we are on the FB subject... A WW2talk page on Facebook to create awareness of this great forum?

Adam prefered to go Twatter. https://twitter.com/WW2Talk A forum of this size should surely be on both platforms!
A forum of this size should surely be on both platforms! Who'd run it? I aint, pain enough in the arse running this place let alone a FB page too.
Merged two Friendface threads. Two more rather charming little Friendface groups: Artists of The Artists Rifles. Emanuel School at War Don't hesitate to add your own. Jakob, I thought I said a while back to start one if you like, mate. I haven't as I'm not sure the format really supports a forum. Might as well keep the threaded chat here, but fill yer boots if you get the urge.
