Just doing a quick check to see if the current forums are okay with everyone, do we need anymore for particular subjects.

It has been suggested that following forums be added:

    Gaming forum
    Modelling
holocaust (bet that raises a few eyebrows!)
    Russia's War
    Militiaria

Happy to add these if there is enough interest.

    Any other suggestions.

Hmm. Holocaust is a very 'heavy' topic.
Always, when I see pictures of starving jewish children on streets of Warsaw's ghetto, I fall in berserk state. If I would have lived in the times of war, I probably would rip of guts of few nazis with my bare hands.
    But please remember about Poles.
Hitler before war wasn't thinking about concentration camps. The first nation he wanted to destroy was Poland. He said "Kill each Pole. Man, woman, child."
The plan was simple. Eliminate the existance of Polish nation. It wasn't France where everyone jumped around happily drinking wine. Poland was devided on two parts. The first-lands added to Germany, were transformated. Names of Everything! were changed on German. People were used as slave labours in Germany. And those lands were supposed to act as new place for German settlers. The second part-lands under ocupation or Generalgouverneurs . A kind of country under ocupation. Only used to 'store' people from those first lands. Also it was used, in all possible way, as a cheap production facility. After time it was supposed to be also 'turned' into Germany, colonized and all Poles were supposed to be, simply saying, anihilated.
Probably no one of you ever heared about 'AB list' . It was list of people, doctors, scientists, etc. 6000 of them. The list was made before the war started. What happened to those people ? Stupid question.
The story is long. Poland wasn't only 'minor ally' and a place were concentration camps were placed. We don't want to be known only for those camps.
The Holocaust was a hideous thing. So when you think about Poles dont think only about it. Think about us as people who fought with the nazis from beggining to the end. We lost 6,5 millions of our citizens ( about 3 millions of polish Juwes ).
If we want to talk about Holocaust, lets talk about Holocausts of each country. Juwes in camps, Poles in basements, Russians in fields, even Germans.

Ps. A small test to all who want to try.
Do you know what happened to 'SS-Standarte Germania'

    Okay,

This has bene suggested before but its a big topic, I dont think we can have just one forum as there are people from many countries here and homefront to everyone is different.

    Suggestions??

New section on the site altogether?
New forum with a few sub forums for easier posting?

What areas should the home front cover?

    Children of the war
    Women of the war
    etc......

    Let me know your thoughts.

I dont really think this would be an idea, I did start a new forum a while ago at http://www.warfaretoday.com for the more recent war topics, just not got back to finishing it.

I would prefer to keep this site WW2, its keeping the forums alive just nicely. Remember this site is only in its 3rd month and already we have near 200 members and almost 2000 posts, as more members join the post rate will increase.

My Suggestions for a Home Front Forum would be to have 3 sub-sections

    Home Front - USA
    Home Front - UK
    Home Front - Others

For example Home Front - UK could cover areas such as Home Defences , Home Guard , Radar Installations, Emergency Airfields, Battle Training Areas, ARP, Civilian Activities, the Blitz, Evacuation, Fire Watch/Fire Fighting, Bomb Disposal, Foreign Servicemen stationed in the UK etc etc

    Steve,
That's the sort of thing I had in mind. Hope you can arrange something along those lines, Lee.
    Many thanks.

I have added a new category on the home front, to be as fair as possible initially I have added forums for the following countries..

    UK
    USA
    Poland
    France

I will add more as needed, but its probably fair to add a forum for any country involved in the war, that of course would take up a lot of space on the forums. So I have included those for now along with an "other" forum which I will split up into other country forums as required. It think thats fair?

So if your country is not listed please add it to the "other" forum and I will keep an eye on that area to expand the section as required.

I am just trying to ensure there is not a huge list of forums on the home page to scroll through.

If you look at the first set of forums in the list I have added all the forums inside just one for neatness, does everyone think this is a good idea, if the forum heading are quite specific we can have many more forums set up like this to allow you to find an area quicker.

Sorry - been away for a while.

Gaming forum sounds good - but can we make it for tabletop gaming as well as PC/PS etc gaming, as this might bring in more members?

Ok, a seperate forum for gaming seems to be a popular one. Just adding it now.

I am still looking for something we could add to the site in the way of maybe a turn based game that could be installed on the server so that we can play against each other, something simple that everyone can participate in, not a Battlefield 1942 type game that probably few here have.

I must say that the interest in the wars is certainly showing in the games shops, I was in PC World today as my son was looking for a new Scooby Doo game and was amazed at the number of WW2 games being sold.

One devoted to Italy would attract many a post. I know Tomcan (one of the latest to join the Forum) has lots of good material relative to that theatre.

It would certainly interest me, Italy is one of the area that is very much unknown to me, I think given the good suggestions I need to work on the existing forums a bit, We dont want a huge list to tread through I will see what if any forums I can tidy up before we add any more.
