Dan Snow did a recent (10th May 2018) "History Hit" podcast on the history of the Eurovision Contest Spitfires & Eurovision - Chris West from Dan Snow's HISTORY HIT Spitfires & Eurovision - Chris West "Dan talks to Chris West about his new history of the Eurovision song contest, and the political history that surrounds it." Although the "Spitfires" bit was not related to Eurovision - but was a part of the introduction as Dan Snow was about to take a flight in a 2 seater Spitfire to mark the 100th Anniversary of the RAF, there is, nevertheless still a little bit about WW2 in there ;-)
what a shambles bunch of peasants Stage stormed during UK's Eurovision song SuRie was performing her song Storm when a man wearing a rucksack ran onto the stage, grabbed her microphone, and appeared to say: "Nazis of the UK media, we demand freedom." He was swiftly dragged off stage and SuRie continued performing the song. SuRie was given the chance to sing again after the final entry's performance but declined. MOLDOVA REMAIN PEOPLE'S CHAMPIONS. NEVA4GET. Italy's song also had a powerful message, deserved to do much better.
Didn't watch it, but heard the result inadvertently on the radio this morning... https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b2gs7b About 4 mins into the headlines... UK 3rd from bottom and with the winning song featuring a "chicken dance". There was though a quote I quite liked (quite early) into the History Hit on the history of the Eurovision... "perhaps the rot set in" - with the UK's entry into the competition ;-)
Another European farce we should Brexit stage left... Which part of Europe is the winner Israel situated in anyway, not to mention Australia; or did they just misspell Austria?
It was started by the Swiss ;-) And has nothing (much ;-) to do with the European Union. The title "Eurovision" stemming (I presume) from: European Broadcasting Area - Wikipedia "The boundaries of the European Broadcasting Area have their origin in the regions served and linked by telegraphy cables in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The European Broadcasting Area plays a part in the definition of eligibility for active membership in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and thus participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. As of November 2017, the European Broadcasting Union has 73 members from 56 countries, 33 associates from 21 countries, and 7 approved participants" As for Australia, their participation, I guess, stems from their historically watching it and a lot of other European TV, plus their enthusiastically taking part ;-) Edit to add further "Australia involvement" - explanation from the BBC" - Why is Australia in Eurovision?
I didn’t mention the EU. So, only part of Russia is allowed to enter the competition (see they’ve been cheating all these years by entering the full country) and Syria’s official entry, The Chemical Bros, signing ‘Death to our Own People’ was unfairly omitted. Still doesn’t explain Austria-alia’s involvement either. I think we need another referendum...
A workshop evening for me tonight. I shall try not to hammer too hard, and no grinding unless it's really necessary.
In view of the date, I was hoping I would avoid it (I will anyway) by sitting down and watching an evening of commemoration to the battles of Monte Cassino - can't find anything, perhaps it will at least get a mention on the news.
Presumably you mean 'Exit' Eurovision. Like Brexit that would be very easy if the will to support public opinion was there.
