If Australia had won then next year it would have been held in a European country with Australia involved hosting it. Graham Norton explained this last night.
Can Lucie Jones win Eurovision? - BBC News "She's already told BBC Breakfast that "the public are calling for changes [to the song] - that's the great thing about social media... we're looking into it". Eurovision fans on Twitter were split on the ballad, titled Never Give Up on You (interpret that as you wish)." Would that be: titled "I will Never Give Up on EU"... Got to be in with at least a chance this year "It's been a trying few years for the UK at Eurovision. Since 2012, we've come 25th, 19th, 17th, 24th... and last year, 24th again. Out of 26. Ouch." A Song for Europe (Father Ted) - Wikipedia "unconvincingly laughing off Byrne's suggestion that he wants to guarantee Ireland lose the main competition, with it being too expensive to host the competition every year, Ireland having won the last five Eurosongs" Albeit there is much to be said also for just going for broke and aiming for the full set of "nul points" Voting at the Eurovision Song Contest - Wikipedia Pretty tragic that they have made this harder to do... but that ought to just make it more worth that extra bit of effort
Eurovision in Ukraine: Controversy over Russian entry Eurovision in Ukraine: Controversy over Russian entry - BBC News
So nothing's changed then Clive, bet nobody will vote for us this time. Not even Ireland-they didn't make it. What a waste of the BBC licence fee. Does anyone know how much they contribute to Eurovision? Lesley Edit: Mind you, I will probably watch some of it
Are there any songs in it these days or does everyone just turn up and make a fool of themselves? Oh sorry that's the European Parliament for which voting goes along similar lines I believe.
You would think that, from reading most of the posts here, the voting was political rather than a proper assessment of some lovely songs and not so good songs........ Actually, we can blame Brexit whatever happens to the UK entry. If people want to secretly support the Brexiting UK then we will get lots of votes....or not as the case may be.....or......if they want to bash the country that came to their salvation in WW2, they could give us null points. If it's the latter, we could yet again blame it on politics rather than it being a lousy song which, incidentally, I've never heard.
Think I just found out the answer to my question. The BBC paid £310,000 in 2012 for the entry to the Eurovision Song Contest- The BBC admitted in a Freedom of Information request last week that it spent £310,000 - that’s the equivalent of 2,130 TV licences as £145.50 each - on the entry BBC Eurovision dud: £310,000 to secure second to last place was "value for money"
I wonder what would happen if a country decided to enter a song about a militaristic megalomaniac who wanted to take over Europe? Come to think of it:
Just had a look on odds checker. If you fancy a flutter. Bulgaria (fav) 4-1 UK 33-1 Spain 500-1 (If you go each-way its 1/3 odds to finish in the top 3) Graham.
That's probably good value in the great scheme of things because: 1. If the UK weren't in it we wouldn't be able to have our annual fix of self-imposed schadenfreude or whatever other term for it you wish to use. 2. Far more people would watch the BBC when it's on even if they wouldn't admit it so it's good for BBC ratings. 3. Other TV channels can save money because there is no way they can compete with that Contest so can put on a cheap programme instead. 4. ......oh.....and there are some international attempts at singing....and looking at attention grapping self publicists.
Always end up watching. Some decent songs and some quality laughs. This was a great song from a few years ago.
My vote for Eurovison goes to the chap with the Australian flag who just dropped his keks and mooned for the world audience. I suspect that a UK security guard would have realised sooner what was going to happen.
people asked the question Will the UK still be allowed to enter the Eurovision Song Contest after Brexit? and many of these people are allowed to vote in elections
