This one is intriguing both me and my dad. I found a memorial inscription for this gentleman in Scartho Road Cemetery, Grimsby. It reads: ICI REPOSE YA HABIBTY HUSBAND BORROSKIFF ERIC EMPTAGE HARVEY AGE DE 38 ANS Now, the MI doesnt really matter, and research is currently ongoing regarding a possible marriage to a French/Algerian/Tunisian/Egyptian woman, but details that my dad unearthed have added an extra dimension. He was born in 1908, died on 7th Feb 1946 aged 38 He was an ex-serviceman. He was a Lance Corporal in the RAOC His service number was 7585657 Unfortunately I havent been able to find out any more details about him, even with those details. All I have had confirmed is that his service number does indeed place him in the RAOC.........and thats it!!! :indexCAXI2NHN: If anybody else could shed ANY light on this one it would be seriously appreciated by both myself and the old fella too.
That is an odd one? I take it "ICI REPOSE YA HABIBTY HUSBAND" means something like "Here Lies My Darling (or dear, or beloved) Husband"? An odd mix of French, Arabic and English. Or am I totally off with that? "BORROSKIFF" at this point yields absolutely nothing. One possibility there is "BORROSKI, FF". Emptage is more likely to be a surname than a forename, but that is hardly helpful. I suppose he doesn't turn up on CWGC because he died an ex-serviceman. I couldn't even get as far as your Father, but it may encourage others to have a go ... Sorry ... Later ... I just looked at your user name and can see why you have interest in this man. Have you done any genealogical searches on the possibility that Harvey's Mother was an Emptage?
An odd mix of French, Arabic and English. Or am I totally off with that? No, you are spot on, this is why i think he married a woman from one of the French (speaking) Colonies in North Africa Yes his mother was an Emptage. A friend of my dad was the one who found out the majority of the details we have but the two details we would like to tie up are the one about the wife and also where and when he served his country.
temptage, Probably a dumb question but is the memorial inscription on an actual gravestone as opposed to a plaque of some kind and are his remains located in the Grimsby cemetery. It says "ICI REPOSE" so I take it that's the case. There's another "Emptage Harvey" with the RAF mentioned in the link below. He's probably not related but it is so rare to find that name combination that I thought it might be of interest. Beaufort I DW824 - Emptage Harvey Not very helpful I know, but it may attract others and if you pop in now and again with any new findings it brings your search back to the top. Good luck ...

Habibi "is an Arabic word whose literal meaning is my beloved (for a male object of affection; the feminine form is habibti or habibati) and that originates from the adjective habib (beloved). In addition to its literal meaning, the term can denote any of several less formal relationships and can serve as a term of endearment at the corresponding level (e.g., friend or darling)." It may be that his nurse was Egyptian, Tunisian or Algerian which more likely as the other part of the inscription is in French. I can find no marriage details for him on Ancestry. TD
Still scratching my head over this one. I walk past the grave almost every day, and its doing my head in not being able to put 2 +2 together
