I wonder if there is anyone here who can help out with a number on a WW2 military issue spoon that was found in Holland. Obviously it was a standard issue spoon with a number engraved. This is a looooooong shot, but is there any way to find out what the number stood for or maybe even who it belonged to? TIA Stevin
I don't know about 'engraved' but if it was like my 'eating-irons' and mess tins they had the last three figures of my regimental number 'stamped' on them, if there are more than three figures then probably his full regt'l number. Cheers Tony
In case it is a full regimental number the army block allocations are on this thread: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/research-material/8564-army-number-block-allocations.html Cheers, Adam.
Guys! Thanks a lot! This is very helpful. The number is a regimental number; WR2?55009. The ? is not clear. Could be a 7. What would the 9 at the end indicate? It has a prefix WG. Does anyone know what that means? Thanks again guys. Very much appreciated. When I get a pic, I will post it. It was found in a foxhole near a small stream, which was in the front line for months. Loads of small arms ammo was found there as well.
