I have always assumed that in the evening of 20 September - north of the Waal - there were three tanks of Sergeant Robinson at the railway viaduct and the one tank of Captain Carrington near the Waal Bridge. The war diary of 21 Anti-Tank Regiment discloses that around 1930 20 September, two troops of Q Battery had crossed the Waal Bridge. Eight towed anti-tank guns, I thought. Turns out that I was misinformed. Q Battery was equiped with M10 tank destroyers. So, more fire power than I previously thought. Could it be that the M10's had names? Like C3, X3, B1 and B3?
What I figured out was that the Anti-Tank Regt of an armoured division consisted of four batteries; two batteries each equiped with 12 towed 17 pdr AT-guns, and two each with 12 US M10 or Achilles SP TD's.
Thanks Stolpi, They were not only used in a defensive role. From 1500 until 1600 21 September, two M10 tank destroyers of Q Battery 21 ANTI-TANK REGIMENT moved into a small wooded area at the outskirts of Oosterhout and fired on enemy positions.
