    Something historical from my side:

The only known LRDG patrol truck in Egypt sitting on the old route from Ain Dalla to Big Cairn. I had the chance to write a small article in a UK magazine's February '11 issue. Nice truck:

Excellent - It does amaze me how the desert seems to preserve everything.

    Lovely stuff.
So do we you know the specific circumstances of it's abandonment Kuno? Or do we have to buy that magazine.

    (Which mag by the way?)
Ah, Can just make out 'Military Machines International' on the picture.

... the story of that particular truck is that it belonged to S-Patrol and went lost with a broken steering in April 1941 when LRDG HQ moved to Kufra.

    Kuno,

That is a marvellous photograph of the truck.

Is it likely to be removed in the near future? or just left to be robbed of pieces and rot.

    Regards
    Tom

I have sent a copy of the magazine to somebody in Baharia oasis. Most of the Egyptian desert drivers come from this place but do hardly know anything about such war relics. Now, once they know, I hope that its importance is recognized. not only for history but as well as an interesting point for tourists travelling the desert...

    Hi All,

I'm suprise it's still in one piece, most of the time the LRDG tried to blow them up...

    Cheers

Thanks for that post. Made my day.

I've always loved abandoned trucks but never saw a WWII one before.
I'm guessing that's a Ford CMP? The tires look like the same ones used on the Canadian Chevys they used.

That is an amazing find! And I agree with Mr. Moose; those tires look almost brand new!
