Hi All. Bit of a difficult one for the expert researchers among you! My father-in-law died in 1993, and my wife is now interested in finding out about his wartime service. We have very little to go on, though. I can only say we BELIEVE he served with the Beds & Herts (no idea which battalion), and we KNOW he served in India. There is no record of his number, and I have no idea of his rank, or the years he served, beyond what I've said already. He may be the Invisible Man, but I'd appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer - like Regimental Records/Associations, etc. I do have a couple of photos of him when he was in India - but they don't really help, because the photos are so small it would be very difficult to see the cap badge. As I said - a long shot, but I'd be grateful for any steer...Many thanks, guys.
Hi, Welcome to the forum. You don’t actually need a service number or knowledge of a Regiment served to apply for service records. MOD will search on DOB and full name only via this link. Get a copy of military service records There are a couple of members with an interest in Beds & Herts Regt so you may attract a Regimental expert if you add the Regiment name to your topic title. Good Luck. Steve
Hi. My grandad was in the Beds and Herts from 1933-44. What makes you believe he was in that unit? If you have any pics or documents feel free to post them and we’ll have a look! Alex.
Is this him ? - only Edward Sabey I can find who died in 1993 England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007 Name: Edward Sabey Death Age: 67 Birth Date: 19 Jan 1926 Registration Date: Nov 1993 Registration district: Knowsley Inferred County: Merseyside Register Number: D32 District and Subdistrict: 0231D If so I guess his time in India would have been post WW2, until independance in 1947?
