    Hi everyone.

I am finally tracking down my father's service records after a rather inexpert visit to the National Archives. Edward Darling was an armourer who worked on torpedoes and Wildebeest, possibly with 36 squadron, possibly 100 squadron.

He told me brother and I that he escaped from Singapore on the last liner to make it, and was "strafed a bit". After a stop in Java/Batavia he went to Australia, the ? Ceylon or India, Kenya, South Africa and home on a rather overcrowded and insanitary Queen Elizabeth

If anyone can help me with any details I would be much obliged.

I guess the three photos of RAF and Aussies on the deck of Empire Star are well known in this forum. Otherwise I will look for the links and post them.

If Dad was in 36 squadron he and your father-in-law would have known each other and possibly worked together.

    Vgw,

    CD

    Colin,

For the title include his full name, Service No., units with and escape from Singapore.

See guidance on: How to Start a new Thread / Edit Post / Upload Image

His name and number have not appeared here before.

Please make clear what sources you have already looked at, this is often missed, and members can spend a lot of time looking for detail already known.

(Text amended as new thread created).

If you do Facebook there is a really good group called FEPOW Family and there are individuals on it with lots of knowledge of this area of interest.
