Editing thread titles.

    Sorted after some noodling about:
    Thread titles now editable by the thread-starter indefinitely

    • Go to the first post of your thread
    • Click 'Edit' then 'Go advanced', & edit the title.
    • Save.

    Evenin' chaps.
    After a few requests along these lines, I hope :unsure: I've set thread titles to be editable by the thread starter indefinitely.

    Could a non-mod member kindly check one of their 6 months+ old threads for me, and see if they can now change the title by editing their first post on a thread (You'll have to click 'Go advanced for the title edit box to appear, above the main post window).
    My Test profile hasn't started any threads so I can't check an old one.

    Ah, hang on.
    Need to be sure it changed the title in the forum display & portal, and not just the actual thread page?

    Could you nudge the thread with a post to see, and I can delete the new post if needs be.

    Yeah just like Rich's thread, it changed the name on the first post but not the thread title on the portal.

    Digging further, looking at vb manual/forum it may actually be impossible, which is odd.
    Will have a root through user permissions.

    Most chaps I'd be happy to trust with the mod edit powers... but there's no accounting for passing loonies :unsure:.

    Could someone please try an old thread now, using the title-edit method in post #1 ? :
    change the title by editing their first post on a thread (You'll have to click 'Go advanced for the title edit box to appear, above the main post window).

    works for me too.. I added a couple of full stops in my 'Hobo' thread title.

    Seems fine. :)

    First option I went to, but works in a different way to all other time-options :rolleyes:

    Thread titles now editable by the thread-starter indefinitely
    (or more accurately 1.0E+68 minutes, which seems to be 'a very long time' - don't ask o_O)
    • Go to the first post of your thread
    • Click 'Edit' then 'Go advanced', & edit the title.
    • Save.
    (What it may mean is that it's no longer possible to have a different first post title to the thread's title after an edit. But why that would bother anyone I have no idea.)

    As one of those who originally asked for this facility may I formally thank you for taking the trouble to make this now possible ?

    To test it out I found an innocuous thread title "One for the ladies" and added a question mark at the end.

    I promise not to abuse my powers or to run amok through all my postings altering titles :)
