"The Forgotten Soldier", by a Frenchman serving in the German Army ,Guy Sajer, is pretty good.

    "Soldat" by Siegfried Knappe.

And of course, if you want to get the general aspect of the war through the memoirs of the men who leaded it, then look for:

Colonel general Franz Halder "War Diaries 1939-1942"

Colonel general Heinz Guderian "Panzer Leader"

Field marshal Fedor von Bock "War Diaries 1939-1945".

    General Vassili C. Chuikov "Diaries".

Panzer Commander, by Hans Von Luck, is also good.

He was captured by the Soviets.
