    Hello all,

Can anyone tell me whether any battalions of the East Yorkshire Regiment was on Sicily during August 1943, and if so what they were up to in brief terms from landing up until the 29th of that month?

    Any help greatly appreciated ...

    Cheers

5 East Yorks were with 50 Division on Sicily.

5 East Yorks landed near Avola in the second wave, and took a full part n hustling out the German paratroops who formed the back bone of German resistance offered. 5 East Yorks were the first British troops into Messina. Subsequently, from the Port of Augusta, they returned to the UK with the rest of 50 Div to prepare for the Invasion of France.

Cheers Drew - that's spot on and very much appreciated - does the book by any chance give a date that the 5th embarked for the UK?

And would the second wave landing also have been on the morning of 10 July?
