Hasn't the lorry got an RAF roundel on it?

The post-war photos are hard to see clearly but the cap badge could be Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment).

Curiouser and curiouser - I wondered also about that Air Force Roundel in the right headlamp - not unusual as many of their lorries were one eyed - but the face is too blurred for actual recognition - this is becoming addictive and I can't wait to see his service records but without a number - chances are slim - Patty 2233 is not by any chance PD James - leaving the solution to the last page ?

    Cheers

I thought the 'RAF' roundal was used by the British as a recognition symbol in the desert until the Allied Star came into use once the Yanks joined in.

The Allied Star with the Ring was not used until 6th June 1944 specifically for D-Day and onwards along with the black and white strips on aircraft.

Our veteran member Ken Smith is a member of the York branch NVA. He may have known some Leeds members if you drop him a line?

Well they will tell you what to do to make an enquiry. They can't, as far as I know, take enquiries over the phone.

Normally they require full name and date of birth and/or army number.

Just to add to Pauls comments you need proof of death and next of kin's approval if they passed away less than 20/25 years ago and a payment of £30 unless his wife is still alive.

Patricia, the red sash signifies that he was a parade marshall for his branch of the Normandy Veterans association, and this is what it probably states on the bagde on the lapel of his jacket.

As it looks like the photo was taken in Leeds it may be worth while writing to the branch at the address I listed enclosing the photo, as they may be able to help provide his service number.

    Phil

One other option is his marriage certificate if he was in the forces when he married, as this would also contain his service number

Hi Its me again , i just recieved a letter from my dads estate office stating that according to their records im next of kin , its only because im the only one who replied to the obituary in the Yorkshire Evening post as it was asking for known relatives , i also got some money from the estate so looks like i can afford to get his records , how do i find out who his next of kin is ? as the mod wont give me all the information i need otherwise
    Thanks
