Thanks for this one bit of a mystery as he does not appear on the 9th DLI Roll of Honour but is on the Roll Land Forces,a little digging needed I think
    Thanks again

    Good Morning,

Clearly you are an authority on the Durham Light Infantry. I wonder if you have access to a pre-war (WWII) unit roster of personnel? I'm looking for a particular fellow who I understand was a Regular before the war, but I only have a first and last name....no army number (yet). This is only a hunch really, but it might be worth a try (very long story).

The man's name is John Henderson.

Also, if a man volunteered for special service...say with the Commandos and/or SOE (or other) and he was killed in action would he likely be listed under his parent regiment or ?

Lastly, is there any category of casualty listing whereby a man is listed as Missing in Action or Missing in Action presumed dead and if so where are these folks listed.

I have a personal account of such a man, John Henderson, being killed on an operation in Norway (CDO or SOE) in 1941 and can't find him listed anywhere. There are certainly John Henderson's on the CWGC Roll of Honour, but none appear to match this man's approximate date of death or service. I thought perhaps a Roll of MIA or some such.

    Thank you in advance.
