    __________________________________________________

Corporal Mallinson was a native of Co. Durham (Hetton-le-Hole). Before the war he worked as a waiter, living at both Glenridding, Westmorland and Longtown, Cumberland (both now in Cumbria). He died at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, Cumberland (cause of death - perforated gastric ulcer) and was buried in Arthuret churchyard near Longtown.

The epitaph on his headstone is as follows:
"Sacred to the memory of Frank,
The dear husband of Edith and father of Joe and Tom".

The headstone immediately to the right of Corporal Mallinson's (Attachment No. 1) is that of his widow, Edith Annie Bowes (presumably she remarried after the war).
