Hi Kevin. I had an uncle at Dunkirk. He is in an old soldiers home in Canada. He was RTR [Tanks]. The boat took them to Portsmouth. He finished up in Egypt. A second uncle was in the 28th Jungle Field Regt, like your Dad. He was in PAI in Iraq, then India, Then Arakan. The 5th Division was air lifted from Arakan to Imphal. There is a good description on the web, of what those lads went through, from Kohima and Imphal, and then chasing the Japs out of India, in terrible conditions. Unfortunately, my uncle died of typhus just as they reached the Burma border. He was in 5/57 Battery. Do you know what Battery your Dad was in ?
Sorry to hear that - Have you thought about applying for his service records? They will tell you all the units he served with and where.
I think that he has to be dead, and only the most direct family members can get the info. He has two sons who may be interested.
No he doesn't - Just get him to sign the form and you can do the rest. service records sar form requests
