Dunkirk 1940 photos. Some never seen before .

Great photos, Thanks for posting. Do you have a higher res of the first photo with the barge in it.

 

Does it say "BELGIE" on the side ? Belgium seems to have done this, pre-May 1940 in the hope that they would not be attacked.

The best resolution of the first photo i have is 1293 x 851 and it seems it was reduced to 1024 x 673 when i posted it in my answer...

This photo (and the second) was taken from bastion 11, one of the last stand positions of Rifle King's Royal Rifle Corps and French troops during the assault of Calais...

Ship could be a Dredger with that thing on the back?
Funnel marking may be DC?, which would fit for the Company DeCloedt, owner of the VLAANDEREN named vessels.
"BELGIE" on the side ?
This is just a guess. Belgian dredger VLAANDEREN I sunk Saturday May 18, 1940, in Calais, by a mine or was bombed and sunk .

Photo just came in the post. One of the best photos i have of the East Mole Dunkirk and sunken ships + the Blockships. There is a sunk ship with a ? next to it any ID on it.
Blockships were: SS Westcove (sunk 3 June), SS Holland (3 June), HMS Env. Nissan (3 June), SS Gurko (4 June) sunk outside Dunkirk, and SS Pacifico (4 June)

Getty Images photo, via Daily Mail article, "?" (the sunken ship) described as a "trawler", which hopefully narrows things down a little - maybe (aft mast of the "trawler" is at very edge/out of frame in the Getty Images photo)



"HMS Valourous" is inboard of said "trawler" at the mole.
