    Hi All,
I was wondering if there's anyone out there who has this book who could tell me what period it covers? Does it cover everything ie WW2 to present day or does it just deal with one specific era?
Any help would be greatly appreciated :).
    All the best..........

I believe the DZ flashes are a post-war thing. As far I can recall the only distinctive feature about Parachute Battalion uniforms was the various coloured lanyards.

Just had a quick look at my copy, majority is post war but a few pages on WW2, no colour pics either, all B&W, as is small pamphlet book.

Hope this helps, and if its not too much you will probably buy it anyway!!

    Regards

    Andy

I seem to remember seeing a picture of a member of 6th Airborne with a large 'O' painted on the back of his oversmock prior to D-Day....or did I imagine that! I'm sure someone here will know for sure :).

    Hi Paul,

Regarding 6th Airborne Division's markings on the oversmocks such as the painted 'O'. In Pegasus 1944 book there is a photograph of an oversmock with a white circle painted on with a blue dot of an 'A. Brown' which was found at Touffreville which would have been a paratrooper from the 8th Parachute Bn.

Some footage of the 5th Parachute Brigade in their transit camp shows some paratroopers with a white square with a cross on their oversmocks.

    http://www.britishpathe.com/video/landing-craft-gliders/query/landing+craft

Other distinguishing marks on oversmocks are:

7th Parachute Bn an upside down white triangle with an upside green triangle painted inside.

9th Parachute Bn two yellow triangles one upright & one upside down with touching apexes.

Also the skulls cross bones was worn on the Denison smocks of the 9th Parachute Bn who were attacking the Merville Battery on D-Day.

Anybody else know of any other markings like this?
