Hi All I am researching my Uncle Doug in the 2nd WW. I don't have his service number. DOUGLAS ALBERT PEPIN 1919–2009 Birth 1919 • Kettering, Northamptonshire, England Death 2009 • Kettering, Northamptonshire, England He was in the Royal army service corps. He was part of the Red Ball Express following the yanks. His medals are the 39-45star, France and Germany star, War medal, Defence medal. He was D Day +6 and we wish we could of asked more, but at the time when he mentioned about him going into Belson he burst out crying. we did not talk to him much about it. A photo of him. Last photo of him in uniform, apparently he used to drive down from the landings with supplies to Averanche and across country towards Paris. and back again with wounded.
Welcome aboard. Others may come along and help. Always apply for his Service Record, even if the turnaround is reported as a year plus now. Nothing found on a quick search. The town you refer to is Avranches, for initial details see:Avranches - Wikipedia I have noted the 'Other Ranks' rarely feature in Google searches unless they have been awarded gallantry medals, or written their memoirs.
Hello As David suggests link here Get a copy of military service records please read through the link and as stated the wait time is now quite long so apply as soon as possible Please do not pay for any site on the internet who promise you his service records they will not have them and you would have wasted your money regards Clive
Possibly Douglas Albert Pepin who enlisted with the Royal Artillery, service number 1601125. Remarks state 'S/L' and '22/3/44 to RASC'. S/L is search light. Possibly living at 33, Harvey Street, Folkestone in 1939 Register, dob 9 Aug 1919, assumed parents Albert E and Hannah EV. Note that you do not need any military details to obtain his service records and they are the only place to start as mentioned above. As an aside if the 1939 details are correct then Albert Edward Pepin was in the RN, his service details are available at no charge: Medal Card of Pepin, Albert Edward Place of Birth: Folkestone Date of Birth:... | The National Archives First name(s) Albert Edward Last name Pepin Event year 1918 Birth year 1882 Birth place Folkestone Birth county/country Kent Birth date 09 Dec 1882 Identity certificate number 806132 Card type CR10 The National Archives Series BT350 Date range 1918-1921 Record set Britain, Merchant Seamen, 1918-1941
