Don't ask what the forum can do for you but...

The more I read the more I am impressed by the sheer breadth of knowledge on the forum. And the depth. Which leaves the likes of me (basically the daughter and neice of Tankie officers) asking where they can contribute in any way other than support and banter.

    So here is my CV

I am well versed in all things to do with the spirit of RTR, 8th army, 7th armoured div
I have (courtesy of dear friend) the 1 RTR and 46 RTR war diaries
I have (courtesy of uncle) a large collection of photos which I WILL scan on
I am pretty bright albeit a solicitor (stop booing)

So I ask not what the forum can do for me (a given) but what can I do for the forum apart from being chatty and posting in everlasting respect of our veterans of whom I am proud to count my father and uncle.

    Any thoughts chaps ?

    Susan,

Your offer is greatly appreciated, and your attitude encouraged.

I came on looking for information, now I jump in on threads where I think I can help, and like to think I have. So my suggestion is just jump in on any thread that interests you and go for it. There is a no names no pack drill attitude unless one comes across as a spammer or a tosser or both!

Why not make the diaries you were so kindly given accessible to others via a couple of threads on the forum?

The photos are of course eagerly - yet patiently - awaited. ;)

A generous offer Susan. I'm sure we all eagerly await whatever material you decide to post. Excerpts from the Diaries would be especially nice.

Beyond that, have you given any thought to filing litigation against those who would harass or otherwise harm our veterans. That would be well received.:poppy::)

Susan, I am in agreement with Mark (BFBSM).
Just carry on with what you, Mark, I and many others are doing.
Welcome new members, point them in the right direction for Service records, CWGC, ICRC, POW records etc.
When you see a thread you think you can contribute to post on it. We all know a tiny piece of information can be the key to answering a query.
As Di says, put up the Diaries you have and we would all like to see your bagful of photos!

Be careful of what you read from Adam. He's not much brighter than the average poodle, especially where tanks are concerned.:D

Is that a Standard poodle or one of the ones you carry in a
handbag. hey Adam -I am a friend of anyone who loves tanks.

There are exceptions to every rule. I could say that I have also read some of the biggest revisionist or ignornant rubbish out but lucky for the forum the bright ones (usually) win out and the others get dealt with

    ;)

Sorry to say there will be members that only come here for their own agenda looking for things and looking to swap things. I don't know that much about things but there are some adverts. And a lot of book writers on the sight.

Selfishness on the part of others is a distraction but not a deterrent ...

 This is an internet forum, what do you expect? It's a place to exchange information and opinion; folks can make up their own minds whether to participate or not.
Adverts are allowed if they're reasonable and ww2 related, as is plugging a book. Imagine there being authors here, whatever next: historians!
We all buy books and stuff, and can surely make our own decisions. Or should we be treated by the mods like we're kids at some sweetie-free supermarket till. ;)

The simplest way of explaining how the forum works is that all of us have or know something that we are willing to share, even if it's just a link we found by googling. It's been illustrated manys a time here that one little snippet of info shared on the way might just be a vital piece of the jigsaw for someone else. Quite often what someone wants the most is ... a photo of a relative. Get scanning girl !

I remember BBS, XT's, FTP and Gopher we shared stuff in them days, even on the web when it was just dial up internet. We post on this forum because we are aloud. You Don't get the exchange of information or you would get my title.

WT I'm afraid what we have here is a failure to communicate. Blunt but honest - I just don't 'get' much of what you say. -_-
