Hi, Does anyone know where these photos were taken, who they are of, the army regiment etc...? Taken during WW2, probably around Jan 1945, looks like a desert or tropical location. Envelope was stamp with a Gibrarltar stamp, and photos stamped with BASE 2452. Also letter with clues. Seven World War 2 photographs here
The envelope is interesting because it shows the image of King George V, who died around 1935. They must have been using old stock. The uniforms in the group photograph look American to me. Otherwise, not a clue.
Not much to go one there. I would agree with angie that the personnel are dressed in US garb. Looks like the Pacific theatre. I sthat wreckage in front of the group?

Makes you wonder how a picture of Americans in the Pacific got into a Gibraltar registered envelope carrying the image of a dead monarch. Or is it North Africa? After all, they had palm trees too.
Does look like American uniforms and tents but could there be a connection with the Aussies? That would explain the mail>
Looks like US Marine airmen in the Pacific with a wrecked plane. Maybe an Australian had a friend or rellie with the Americans at Munda or Rendova and sent a photo to his pal or brother in North Africa.
Must be a clue in the Base 2452. There must be some where on the net we're you can check up that information.

Diego Garcia, Maldives, Ceylon??????????? he would have handed into his local BFPO and they would have forwarded it on. it could be that he made a stopover in Gib and posted it there!
