If you have the possibility to watch the German TV channel ZdF,
I recommend to tune in on Tuesday next week at 8:15 pm

The title: Wir im Krieg - Us at war

the documentation is made up of private films, sometimes illegally done.
Even, if you do not understand German, from what I know the films need no words.
Some of the documents are really horrible, others very private.

    Stefan,

Thanks for posting.I will have a look here to see if it is available in the UK.It reminds me of a BBC 2 documentary made up from private filming sourced from both sides which was very revealing. Not many British families would have access to cine cameras in those days and I would think what I have seen over the years, possession of cine cameras by the German public exceeded those held by the British public.

There was also audio with it and I remember a German family relating how their prize Mercedes was requisitioned by the Wehrmacht with the assurance that it would be returned after the war....some assurance probably related to Hitler's vision of lightening war.

On the old SKY analogue platform,Zdf was easily accessible as I remember.....also Zdf documents are often screened by the BBC.

P.S. I see that the BBC and ZDF have recently entered into an alliance to produce quality programmes.

    Harry,
thanks for the link. That will hopefully provide me with a direct access to some BBC documentation.
    Stefan.
NB: From the German press information, the documentation is really something not to miss.

  5. A stupid question probably, but could not a forum member with access to ZDF record the doc and upload it somewhere for other members to download?

I would if I could, but the ZDF Live TV page tells me "Aus rechtlichen Gründen kann dieser Beitrag nur in Deutschland gezeigt werden."

I thought the European Union still existed...

P.S. Apparently only live broacast are geographically limited. Past broadcasts can be viewed from anywhere:

Hmmm, is it geo-blocked outside the EU? I attempted to watch a previously screened doco (Sendung Verpasen) and it told me it was only for German viewers. :(

Although I have watched other programs, so maybe they are selective of what they restrict outside Germany/EU?

    Hello all,
just watched it. amazing how colors add to this horror . There was also a lot of verbal interesting information. Frankly, I was shocked, All this nonsense: We did not know! May be not the brutal impact, but most Germans could see it coming.
    Stefan.
If anyone needs some translation, let me know.

Just got in after an invite out so I could not test if the programme was capable of being streamed.

The BBC 2 documentary is on VHS which I recorded about 25 years ago. If I can find it I will be able to ascertain its title and reference source

  11. Documentary streamed (and downloaded) OK

Good Michel.....can you upload it on to the forum,

  14. Too big to upload on the forum, so I uploaded it here (as a ZIP file, otherwise it opens as a video and can't be dowloaded):

    Thanks Michel

Just successfully accessed the documentary.....nearly 600 MB...will view it later at my leisure.

Thinking about it,it needs to be put against Soldaten.....On Fighting,Killing and Dying...The German POWs discussed for hours on end such topics as airplanes, bombs, radar devices, cities, landscapes and women against a background where brutality.harshness and a lack of emotion was an everyday reality,The killing and the worst sorts of violence revealed were shown to be part of the narrator's and his audience everyday experience on the Russian Front.

An extract from the Chapter, What Soldiers Discussed........Two POWs, Muller and Faust were caught through eavesdropping system discussing women.Muller speaks of various locations,Kharkiv and Taganrog. He relates he did a lot of flying at the junction of the Don and the Donetz....everyone spoke a little German...beautiful country he states.(I am assuming from his reference to flying that he was in the Luftwaffe) Everywhere we saw women doing compulsory labour service (defined by the Allies and courts of justice as forced labour)

    Faust....How frightful

Muller....They were employed on road making...extraordinarily lovely girls...we drove past.....simply pulled them into the armoured car...raped them and threw them out again. And did they curse.

From Muller's narrative, these women appeared to have survived the incident. Many not so... they were raped and murdered.

I have watched the documentary and in my opinion it does not illustrate anything more than has been previously shown on the Eastern Front.Indeed the filming of the mass shooting of Jewish males has previously appeared in a number of documentaries and I would think might well have been unofficial.....genocide in Russia.

The same can be said of the photograph frame showing the hanging of civilians which has been seen before in documentaries.......thought to be Russian partisans.

Interesting enough to see how the average German supported and heralded the new order as onlookers..
