Does anyone have a list of the Docks Operating Companies or signpost me to a source?

I am confused about the numbers allocated to the Docks Operating Companies, and whether specific numbers refer to specific Docks Battalions.

Were specific numbers allocated to a theatre of war and then changed when sent to a different theatre?

Reason being that there seems to an awful lot of Dock Operating Companies referred to in reminisces on the interent.

    Thanks

My father was in the R.E and in Dock op Coy 1017 - I have his war records now, but they only give the general outlines - I am searching through to follow his 'exploits' -

I have set up a website to follow and research into my father's locations and exploits during his time in North Africa/Med/Italy and Palestine etc - may help in some of the Docks and ports units of the Royal engineers'

I have just come across your post and found all the information therein very interesting. I am currently researching someone in the same Company and wonder if you could answer a question for me. Would it be likely that someone serving in Egypt with this company could go on the xii list and 3 weeks later embark for Cyprus.
Also his records show that he was with M.E. and also M.E.F. I assume M.E. Is Mediterranean and M.E.F is Middle East. Is this so?
