Do you know about the German POW camp in Rimini (1945)?

    Hi Michael

There does appear to be some Fedeczko's living in and around the Nottinghamshire region according to Ancestry records, but I do not know if any of these are connected to your father. An example is:
    Waldermeer Fedeczko
    Birth: Ukraine
    Death: 12 Mar - Nottingham

There also seems to be some that emigrated to Canada and USA. I also note that your surname may have Polish connections as some of the information I have looked at shows that some of those with the same surname were born in Poland - sorry if that adds to your problem - I hope not.

Do you have details of your father? - date of birth, where born, full name etc etc

  3. Hi TD
thanks for taking the time to reply! Yes the basic entry you have picked up is the one I have set up in my family tree. My father is Wolodymyr Fedeczko born Ukraine 13/08/1913 deceased Nottingham 12/03/1986. I've been trying to find the city/town he was born otherwise I will not be able to progress my search. I'm trying to either get records from Rimini camp or Langar camp. My father did not speak about his past and his English was quite poor.

    Hi Michael

Ancestry does not contain any Ukranian records unfortunately, however I assume that there is nothing on his death or marriage certificate that might narrow down your search??

    Name: Wolodymyr Fedeczko
    Spouse Surname: Walker
    Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1950
    Registration district: Nottingham
    Inferred County: Nottinghamshire
    Volume Number: 3c
    Page Number: 1022
    Find Spouse: Find Spouse

Perhaps you could pose the question to another 'vitellino' as he is Italian and may be able to help

My father was in charge of/based at a pow camp in Rimini or possibly Riccioni at the end of WW2.
The prisoners were free to leave at the end of the war once they received 'sponsorship'.
I.e. someone paid their fare home.
He was based in a hotel.
I think in Riccioni and the camp was possibly in Rimini.
I know that he told me there was only him living in the hotel.
The hotel was receiving supplies, and someone working there.
Apparently he had good choice of meals available.
What he asked for was provided.
Previous to this he was based in Austria for a while.
Told me the British Army fed local Austrian children, and these youngsters were fairly much starving.
I think he was based in Italy for about a year.
Anyone else have any knowledge of any of this?
One of many details I found of interest that he mentioned.
He was 18 near the start of WW2 and, from all the events he described, was lucky to survive, living through it.

    Hi William

Your very best and really only place to start your quest for information is to obtain his service records - these are ONLY available from the MOD and the forms for the application can be found on this link Request records of deceased service personnel you will need to provide a copy of his death certificate.
They will tell you where he was, what units he was in and where he was so providing you the basis of finding out more. It would be better if you statred a new and separate thread for him so that all his details are kept together. In starting that thread it would be helpful to include his name, service number if you have it and his regiment(s) this will attract hopefully other members who may have detailed information

  11. The national archives have protected the files due to their sensitivity and they are classified for 100 years. I have found another Facebook group called Ukrainian History UK who have some Rimini lists in alphabetical order. You need to join the forum before you can access. Hope any one looking for information on relatives from Ukraine find this helpful, I have.
