Do you guys know what this is?

My grandpa fought in World War 2. On the island of Iwo Jima he went into a cavern, and found a green box. The box is made of metal and painted green. The box has Japanese writing painted on it, and inside the box is some kind of scope and tripod. The scope has detachable lenses, and filters with it. I will try an get some pictures up soon. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like some kind of trig thing for measuring distances, inclines etc. Get the pictures up dude.
