Disappointed - is this how we treat new members?

    During my search for information regarding my uncle and what happened to his plane, I've been lucky enough to 'virtually' and physically meet people from around the world, who have their own expertise to add to the search or generally add their support.

    I've posted several articles in newspapers around the world, and country. Recently I had an article in my local paper asking for help finding information about Sgt Naylor and Sgt Richards. I received a very helpful and in depth response from a gentleman called Steve.

    Steve was able to suggest areas for investigation and even included my details in his searches through Ancestry and other data sources, sending me possible files and details for me to cross check. He also went so far as to find information that could have related to my grandfather whose WW1 service I've been trying to discover as well.

    I highly recommended ww2talk.com to him, saying how helpful people were and if he was ever to consider joining a forum ww2talk was THE one to join, as people were really nice, friendly, knowledgable, helpful etc etc.

    Steve joined, on my recommendation and it now seems has been subject to a series of flaming episodes.

    Whilst I understand that people have their own areas of expertise, knowledge and way of expressing that, and that there is always the possibility for disagreement over facts etc, surely this is no way to treat a new member, who may have knowledge and access to sources that may be useful to other members on this forum.

    Nicola,

    I have not been spending as much time as I would have liked over the last months, but I must have missed something as I can recollect only one thread that was the cause of a lot of emotions and was closed.

    Well, the fella kind of asked for it. He was the one being offensive.

    The response to Ramacal's post on that thread is bizarre to say the least.

    Nicola, what thread are you talking about?

    Have not been around too much of late but would be interested to see the thread , it is a little out of character for WW2talk.

    Well I gave him some Neg rep , is that what you mean ?
    I did think the continued whinging about Rob editing his post was a bit off.

    Ramacal,

    and don't like you to publish them
    could have been phrased better too in responce to a photograph that was clearly marked for what it was.

    Regards,

    Marco

    I notice the original poster hasn't returned to comment on this thread, nor has the chap who was "subjected to a series of flaming episodes"!

    Time to move on I think to more important threads.

    Hello Nic

    I dont think that "flaming episodes" is at all true

    Robs reply

    "Photos from the above site have to be paid for. Great for singles and if no other alternative is available. They are also subject to copyright and don't like you to publish them. It is also not CWGC's, but done in association with them.

    We try if possible to see if one can be obtained for free, which Forum Member Bucklt can do. He has almost all of the photos from the Far East."

    There is nothing in this reply to cause offence.
    It points out the site mentioned charges and has copyright .Plus gives the new member a pointer that we try to get photos for free using the WW2talk network.

    The editing is quite clearly to ensure all detail is covered.

    We now need to crack on.

    regards

    I have to say as 'flaming' goes this is quite a tame example.
    We all say things we regret. We all lose our temper. As in life you just gotta get over it and carry on as if nothing happened.

    Having met Rob a few times and travelled to France with him for a few days - I can say he is one of the more chilled out blokes I know (except when he's in a car PMSL).

    He's never had a pop at anyone on here - publically :lol:

    I am loth to prolong this particular thread which, at best, is divisive and corrosive but I feel that Rob (AKA Ramacal) is one of the least likely of forum members who should have been attacked in this manner.

    I have been around on this site for quite a few years now and one thing I have discovered is that members like Rob have always been unstinting in their efforts to supply photos and info to anyone who has a genuine need for research material.

    I would like to think that a relatively newcomer to the forum has made the mistake of reading something into a posting that was never there in the first place and respectfully suggest that the matter is allowed to fade away without any further rancor.

    A trusty servant's picture would you see,
    This figure well survey, who'ever you be.
    The porker's snout not nice in diet shows;
    The padlock shut, no secret he'll disclose;
    Patient, to angry lords the ass gives ear;
    Swiftness on errand, the stag's feet declare;
    Laden his left hand, apt to labour saith;
    The coat his neatness; the open hand his faith;
    Girt with his sword, his shield upon his arm,
    Himself and master he'll protect from harm.

    This forum is impressive in the way it self regulates. Those that have attempted to put an argument in an offensive manner have been soon put right, as it should be.
