Hi Philip, Do you need anything thing for Nijmegen ?? found a report that shows a P 51 crash site ??? Tom
Thanks Tom, but Nijmegen is a no go area, very strick rules there as it is one of the oldest cities and a lot of archeoligy recently they found footprints of roman people there, but I will keep it in mind as sometimes we get some work there for a company.
Oke Dave I will warn the local police ,that two fanatics will come to this area, so they can warn the EOD

The word Nijmegen is derived from Noviomagus, the name of a Roman city that existed in the second and third centuries. Prior to becoming a 1st Airborne/Arnhem nutcase my area of interest was/is Iron Age/Roman/Saxon Europe, my degree's are all in this field.Slightly off topic, but what the hell,it wasnt me who mentioned the Romans
Kingarthur - Noviomagus was a modest affair, rather a town than a city. The real big 'Roman' cities lay further upstream along the Rhine, such as Colonia Agripinna (modern-day Cologne). Romans made a relatively late appearance in Holland, about 12 BC. At the time Holland was inhabited by approximately 100,000 people. There are two towns in Holland competing for the title of most ancient town of the country - Maastricht and Nijmegen. Both are old Roman foundations. They regularly change position - depending on new archeological finds. Nijmegen at the moment stands out as oldest town. Iron age - then you must be familiar with the work of Barry Cunliffe.
Hi Philip & Stolpi Thanks the only reason I asked is because the report gives you good GPS loction which looks about 10 miles outside Nijmegen... Close to a motorway and farm....

I agree Noviomagus was relatively small but like many urban centers in Antiquity, it was in fact a set of settlements, some of which existed at the same time. The word city was used as a collective term as often trade and expansion meant boundaries became amalgamated. I have attended 2 lectures by Professor Cunliffe and also met him at Maiden Castle. Sorry for hijacking your thread Philip,I will say no more
He I am a Time Team nut, so no problems, they have found loads of stuff there trhough out the years. Tom does it lies north or south of Nijmegen?
