The following picture were taken in and around Derna North Africa in 1941 by a member of the RAOC, you would have passed through Derna on your way to Benghazi, it is situated on the Mediterranean Sea. Picture 1 & 2 are taken of the pass at Derna Picture 2 & 3 the town of Derna and a road Picture 5 is of the Mayors house Picture 6 It state its the late Marshall ****** Palace, I can't work out name Picture 7 Rose garden at the rear of the mayors house Picture 8 Summer house at the Marshalls Palace Picture 9 The pub at Derna named "The Derna Drive" Picture 10 Taken at the rear of the pub
I could imagine my Dad's 6th division and the British 7th Armoured divisions having a wow of a time here after taking Derna. Great photo from the National Library of Australia. http://nla.gov.au/nla.pic-an23566134-v
...the latest picture does not show Derna but definitely Benghazi. Had sent this message to Australia about a year ago.. If you want me I could name several of the buildings - but the unique two-cuppola cathedral is enough for identification

Kuno I have a picture in my collection that didn't have an inscription on the back of where it was taken and the other day I was watching a clip on U tube of the DAK in Derna/Bardia and there this place was, if you get to the film counter of 140 to 145 you'll see its the same place, as I can not unterstand German/Italian still not sure if its Bardia or Derna...any idea? YouTube - Afrika Korps - Derna and Bardia - 1942
0:46, Derna 1:10, Derna until 1:34 1:35, Bardia (until the wrecked planes) 3:42, Don't know... ...and regarding the language: It would not help you much to understand German. The speaker is Italian ;-)

Hi Libyee and welcome click the link below my friend http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/user-introductions/ Andy
I just came across this photo - I suppose it's not amazingly interesting...But perhaps from the point of view of historical interest it's relevant... My father's caption for this was 'Derna, Gem of the Mediterranean'! *Click on image to super-size* (- This image should be withing the 'ideal size' for pics as stated in the image sizing thread. But if you find it not acceptable please tell me so I know for future posts. Thanks.)
I have been able to open the bottom 4 photos but not these, how do I do it? Regards Ted Jones.
