hope some one can help, needing address for the dekho magazine. My Dad recently moved from Kirkwall in Orkney down to Aberdeenshire to be close to family because of his health. Unfortunately I forgot to take one of the magazines address so he can receive his copy. I would like to send them Dad's new address so he can get future copies, I like reading it too! My Dad was in 194 Squadron RAF MT. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Dekho HQ is one and the same with the Burma Star Association: 34 Grosvenor Gardens London SW1W 0DH If you would like a direct email contact for the magazine editor, then please let me know and I can give you this by private message, rather than providing it here. Interesting to read that your Dad was with 194 Squadron, the Friendly Firm. Please tell us more about his time in India and Burma if you would like to.
thanks for your info, would like to have e mail address please. My e mail is [moderator edit] removed My dad told me that his unit once tried to fly into Imphal but the Japs were firing at them so the aircraft had to turn around and leave as it was not safe to land. He said they then went in by road and that West African guys were driving the lorries, the road was cut into a cliff face and only had a few inches on either side off the vehicles, the Brits ended up driving because the African guys were so bad they were terrified that the vehicles would end up at the bottom the cliffs!! I don't know the name of the road they were travelling on though. He has not said very much about his time in Burma, just little bits. I know the fuel lorries the MT guys drove were American because he said they had air brakes and he was not used to driving them, he heard the air hissing out and thought he had a flat tyre! He also ended up in hospital at one point because he had fuel all over his body, as they only wore shorts and sometimes no tops his chest arms and legs were covered in the stuff. He still has some marks on his arms and legs where the fuel was. Will have to ask him again about all the places he was.
Thanks Sylvia, I will email you today. It might be best for you to then remove your email details, so as to avoid any spamming problems etc. Steve
might have a slight problem there, not sure how to remove e mail address from the thread! Not very computer savvy I'm afraid.
