This address is on the back of a postcard which was in my gran’s possessions. However, I believe it was sent to her when the last of her 7 brothers died. All but one were in various regiments during the war. Their name was Reid and from Derry. This could be a card from one of the Reid boys to a friend though I dnt know why it would have been returned to his possession. Can anyone help identify the soldier from the number please as I have not been successful on current websites. I think it reads Gunner Ward W or Gunner Sherward 1456677, F Section 9 th Battery 26th? 25th? LAA Eygpt. The brothers were called Sandy possibly Black Watch, George, Black Watch, Jim, Ronnie, Ernie, Bobby. Jim definitely went to Italy. William Reid served in the Derry fire service during the war.

    Thank you

Many thanks indeed I don’t know the name but I guess it must have been a friend. I wonder if there is a family tree so will look. Cannot think why a card sent to a friend came back to whichever Reid brother it was. Possibly not sent.

The card says something like "a game of cards" on the left hand side, perhaps they played cards either as friends or one of them owed the other something after a few bets and this was the way of being able to pay them back when they got home - could be another story there somewhere

    Just thoughts

According to Farndale there was a 9 Battery in 3 LAA Regiment but that was stationed in Gibraltar 1941-43 so not much help.
