My Grandfather was wounded in Italy in 1944. I'm having trouble deciphering the information given from two different sources.

    forces-war-records.co.uk gives (transcript):

    Date of Action: 14/08/1944
    Fate: Wounded
Incident Details: Reported to War Office Casualty Branch for 24 hours ending at 9.00.
    Incident Date:02/09/1944
    Information: Casualty List No 1541.

However, findmypast.co.uk has National Archive document WO417/81 , where the date of CASUALTY - per image (attached) is listed as 14/8/44 (along with several other unit members).

So what is "incident date" vs. "date of action"? Looking at the image, I'm tempted to understand 14 August as the date of injury, and 2nd September as possibly the date it was reported (and where did they get this date from, it's not in the image?).

However, the August date was in-between engagements, when the Corps was regrouping (though apparently there were occasional attacks from pockets of German forces at high points). The September date matches when the unit was advancing on the Gothic Line, in battle. So could the August date be a date-of-orders for the unit, and the September date be the actual injury, instead?

I'm sure one of you experienced experts out there can weigh in!

    Thanks.

2 September 1944 is the date of the list, it's on page 1.

Oh great, thanks. So the August date, is the date of the actual wounding?
