If any of Admin see this I assume that words such as Honour and Theatre come up as not spelt correctly because the base for this forum is set to English (USA) - is it possible to change that??

Thank you very much. You all have been so very helpful. I know absolutely nothing about my family on my mother’s side other than what I have learned here. If anyone could recommend any websites that are good for researching family ancestry in the UK I would greatly appreciate it.

There's no spell checker or default display on the forum.
All set for input by the browser used, & will display as entered.

The Default language for setting it up is English(US), but I can't see any way that would change what's posted.

    What I see:

If you're getting auto-corrected as you type, that's probably a browser setting.

I would only add to Simon's post #27 above, that there is only ONE place to obtain a serviceman's official records, and that is from the MOD as per my post #2, the link is here:
Get a copy of military service records

Other sites may give the impression that they are available elsewhere but that is not the case. Ancestry and FMP do have some WW2 records but normally limited to POW and casualty lists, the latter does not give details of the circumstances, just name, rank, number and date.

I see that Renee already subscribes to Ancestry so that is a good start, if the existing subscription is for the USA then it may be necessary to extend this to worldwide as UK subscribers would have to do for records elsewhere. Good hunting.
