Military/MV/History/Air Shows and special exhibitions for 2011 Seems to be the time when the mailbox begins filling up with 'flyers' for assorted shows etc. Maybe list 'em here as well as any event-specific threads? Nobody really uses our Calendar much, so a stuck thread might make a more useful list when planning the summer. Dates for the Calendar: W&P/Beltring 20th-24th July - UK: War & Peace Show 2011 - The Largest Military Vehicle Spectacular in the World - Home Duxford MV show 19th June - UK: Imperial War Museum Duxford > What's On > Special Events and Exhibitions : Military Vehicle Show (still never been - must go and see their Conqueror run one day...) Bovington Tankfest 25th-26th June - UK: Welcome to the Tank Museum - Home of the Tank - Tankfest 2011 – The Most Explosive Weekend In History! Duxford Flying Legends 9th-10th July - UK: Imperial War Museum Duxford > What's On > Air Shows and Flying : Flying Legends The Victory Show - 3rd-4th September 2011 - Leicestershire UK: Visitor Information Looks to be on again. Been a damned fine show in the past with good turnout of vehicles, & rather good mock battles (and on one occasion, the maddest & most entertaining pilot of a WW2 Aeroplane I've ever seen, buzzing the site at treetop height... But I'm guessing that may not happen every year.). Victory at Donnington 24th-25th September 2011: Home - Victory at Donington Sketchy info so far, but given the collection that belongs to the Donnington-associated, it could be an interesting end of season prospect. More please (with dates and location would be nice ). ~A

RAF Hendon What's On at RAF Museum London - This Month Tin Hats and Football Boots 22 January - 4 July This temporary display located in the Museum's Historic Hangars explores the contribution made by various members of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal Football Clubs to the Royal Air Force and Air Raid Precautions during the Second World War whilst examining how important regular competitive football was to the upkeep of the capital’s morale. With the outbreak of the Second World War, the world of football changed. Hostilities affected clubs in every league all over the country. The Football League was suspended and then re-instated in a new guise with many professional players joining the armed services and being called upon as ‘guest’ players by clubs near their billets. North London rivals, and RAF Hendon’s major local clubs, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur found themselves sharing Spur’s ground at White Hart Lane; Arsenal’s Highbury ground having been requisitioned by the government as an ARP centre. Not only did these two neighbouring giants have to work together to ensure that both teams catered for their fans but also that they did so through the provision of nail-biting and stimulating games, quite often without the key players or support staff who had been so central to each team’s success before the War The London Blitz 70th Anniversary 1 February - 31 May Commissioned by the Mayor of London and produced in association with the London Transport Museum the 'London Blitz - 70th Anniversary Exhibition' is dedicated to the men and women of the emergency, volunteer, transport and specialist services who kept London going during the darkest days of the war. The exhibition includes rare photographs and graphics from the collections of the London Transport Museum, Museum of London, Metropolitan Police Historical Collection, London Fire Brigade Museum, London Ambulance Service, Barts and the London NHS and Royal Pioneer Corps Association and is located in the Museum's Bomber Hall.
A bit late, I know (apologies) but I am surprised there has been no mention of the RAF Cosford Air Show which took place today in what must have been decidedly bad weather. This was always our local air show when we lived back in Wolverhampton and proved an amazing day out year upon year. Alas we haven't been able to attend for the last two years since moving "darn sarf" but it is always a top, top show well worthy of the admission fee.
