My Grandmother (bless her) kept lots of everything and when clearing her flat found that she had retained all of the 'Official' communications sent out by the local Council to inform the public what to do in the event of War. Over the next few weeks I shall scan these, in case anyone finds it interesting and also add some stories of the locality and the damage caused during the blitz. Dartford is a industrial town located just south of the River Thames, east of London on the border with Kent. And would have been the 2nd major town to be encountered for bombers following the river west towards London. (The other was Gravesend) Dartford was known for the Vickers armaments factories and other chemical and heavy industrial premises and was therefore a legitimate target. It was also ideally placed for bombers to jettison there load onto, if they got in trouble over London which is only minutes away by air. The first set of publications provide instructions for what to do in an air raid and other information for the emergency
Attached are copies of the information sent out to every houshold in 1939 to inform the public about gas attacks
