    Hi Spidge,

It was me who told you where Dave Shannon is buried. He is buried in a little church at Clifton Hampden in Oxfordshire along with his wife. I can get a photo of his memorial if you want. I believe that he died in a care home.
    Born 27 May 1922
Unley Park, South Australia Died 8 April 1993 (aged 70)
    Sydenham, South London, England
Also buried a few yards away is the final resting place of Major John Howard who was commander of 'B' Company, 2nd Battalion Ox and Bucks LI and they were given the job on D-Day to capture and hold Pegasus Bridge. A role taken on by Richard Todd in the film, 'The longest Day'. Incidentley, Richard Todd was also a para during WW2.

I do have a photo of his plaque with his wife as well.

He was organising the 50th anniversary of the raid and died a few weeks before.

    Cheers

    Hello Boro,

Thank you for the information as it fills in another gap.

Would it be too much to ask if you could take a photo of the headstone and a general photo of the cemetery and email it to me?

If not I do have a friend in Bury who may be able to assist. This will give date of death also for the file.

There is only one CWGC death listed there and his name was DEATH.

We had one in the RAAF Ernest Norman Death who is buried at Chester (Blacon) cemetery in Cheshire.

This is the RAF lad at Hawstead.

    In Memory of
    Leading Aircraftman
    Leslie James Death
1471021, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died on 24 January 1945 Age 23
Son of William Arthur and Ada Death, of Bury St. Edmunds.

This aired in 2008 and is available on youtube.

Last of the Dambusters (Part 1) - YouTube

In it Johnny Johnson goes on a pilgimage back to the Dams and in part 5 visits the graves of 27 of the 53 who died on the raid, all buried in the same cemetary. He also discovers how some of the planes came to grief - one was shot down and another hit power lines. He also meets some of the locals, including an anti-aircraft gunner from that night.

I hope this is useful - parts 2 onwards are available on the screen immediately after watching the first one.

    Hello Geoff
I think I have a photo on disc somewhere - you may need to bear with me while I find it. If you want to send me your email address then I can send it to you and you can upload it - I'm useless at things like that!. My email is
It is probably a well known fact and although he wasn't on the Dambusters raid, Leonard Cheshire is buried nearby in Cavendish churchyard. (he is not where the church is but in the cemetry near the school on the opposite side of the green).

    Thanks Provo Marshall.

Good to see there is interest. Need to do a bit more myself on tracking a few of these but time is against me.

All I need now is a photo of the plaque. Maybe they might be in a generous mood - You think??

    Cheers
