My friend and Dambuster Dave Rodger, DFC died September 1, 2004 in his 87th year. He is buried, I believe, in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery here in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. His Forage Cap sits atop my rolltop desk. I have posted Dave's picture on another thread.

    cheers,
    phil

Regarding Nigger's grave, the fence around it must have been in preparation for Scampton being put on Care and Maintenance in 1996.I was able to visit the station in July 1996 when a small RAF unit was on a 2 week detachment there. At the time I was able to have a good look round with my contact. The Red Arrows had left but were still using station airspace and eventually they returned back to No 1 Hanger.

At the time,I took a photograph, pre digital days, but in April 2006 we old boys of the Royal Air Force had a good look round the museum and Red Arrow flight (No 1 Hanger) and I took another photograph of the grave in front of No 3 Hanger which hopefully, I can post.

The Dambusters pub in Scampton village has again has been closed after being operational for about a year but in the last day or two two,an announcement has been made that the pub will be opening again under new management and motivation.

The pub used to have a first class collection of Dambusters memorabilia which sadly has been depleted since the original owner left a couple of years ago.

    Great story Geoff.

Any chance of a photo of the headstone?

Don't know where it is yet, Geoff. I remember local reports of the funeral it was right next to the large town cemetery, so I'll email the district council, might be there with luck. Seem to remember a Lanc. flypast - but I missed it.

    Well done 52nd.

I will try and put up a list by aircraft than can be edited to show what headstone memorials have been achieved.

Just to reiterate what 52nd said, Les Munro is living in New Zealand. I used to play rugby with his Grandson.

I have been told that Sgt F Tees (Ottley's Crew) has his ashes scattered here however, I've also heard his ashes were scattered amongst the remainder of his crew which lie at Reichwald CWGC?
